There’s a type of text message which iPhones intentionally ignore, and that’s a number of the Rich Communication Services messages. For example, if you text from an Android, but you later edit the message, an apple user would still just see the original message. It’s so frustrating that apple blocks so much of the RCS standard. It makes sense that you can’t send a disappearing message from iPhone to Android, since that’s not part of the RCS protocol. However, all RCS features should work on iPhone and there’s no reason for them not to!! The EU should enforce RCS compliance for devices that go beyond the capabilities of the SMS and MMS standards. Although, since it’s not hardware, Apple could still just behave the same in the US as they already do.
So yeah, iPhones are incompatible with many standard texting features by design, and it greatly frustrates me.
